Bernie Ecclestone enjoying Sebastian Vettel’s dominance in the 2011 Formula 1 season
The chief of Formula 1 Management Bernie Ecclestone has recently stated that the reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel’s 2011 dominance is not making Formula 1 boring despite the fact that up until now, it has been a pretty much one sided battle.
McLaren and Ferrari are struggling to cope up with the current championship leaders as they are lagging by almost 5 tenths of a second in terms of qualifying pace. In the races on the other hand, the pace of the top running teams is pretty much the same.
However, due to the advantage in qualifying, Red Bull have been able to score 6 wins out of 8 races up until now and they currently have a perfect pole position scoring record in 2011.
“Sebastian is in a similar position as Michael Schumacher. Sebastian is the best right now and that's why he is dominating, and that's what makes it so interesting for the fans, because every race weekend starts with a big question mark - who will be able
to beat Vettel? That's why fans tune in,” Ecclestone told the media.
Bernie compared Vettel’s current championship run with Michael Schumacher’s when the seven-time world champion dominated the sport for 5 years consecutively with no competition at all.
Nevertheless, he added that the reigning world champion has more competition than Michael ever had during his five-year championship reign as the 2011 Formula 1 season has 5 champions on the grid at the moment.
“The competition Sebastian is facing is much bigger than that confronted by Michael. That makes Seb's wins even more noteworthy. I don't see a reason why there shouldn't be a Red Bull era just as Ferrari had theirs with Michael,” said the CEO of Formula
1 Management.
Besides that, Ecclestone also stated that Vettel is the best when asked how the current championship leader would cope up with Lewis Hamilton if he joins Red Bull Racing Team in 2012.
One has to admit though that if Hamilton, Schumacher, Jenson Button or Fernando Alonso had a good car this season, then dominating the season would not have been possible for Vettel at all.
