Bernie Ecclestone feels confident for 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Bernie Ecclestone, F1 chief executive feels confident about holding Bahrain Grand Prix on April 22, 2012 which was cancelled during the preceding season due to issues of public demonstrations and civil unrest while the groups related to the protection of
human rights dismissed the race.
Moreover, when Ecclestone was asked about his and F1 contenders’ safety concerns in Bahrain, he expressed that he is in no need of personal security, however, he admitted that every step which will be necessary to ensure the safety of the teams will be taken.
“Not at all. It's business as usual. I don't need any personal security but I'm sure whatever's necessary will be looked after,” said the 81-year-old Ecclestone.
Ecclestone stated his views just a day after Sheikh Abdullah bin Isa Al Khalifa, president of Bahrain's Automobile Federation said that he didn’t feel any need to step up the security for the race.
Besides, a spokesman in FIA said, “We welcome the spirit of reconciliation expressed by all parties and look forward to an exciting F1 race at the Bahrain International Circuit.”
A BBC statement said, “If the race is officially sanctioned by the FIA we would expect to cover the event as part of our contractual obligations. We take staff safety very seriously and remain in regular communication with the FIA and will be monitoring
the situation closely.”
It would be important to mention that Nabeel Rajab, president of the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights said that Bahrain GP should not be held in any case because of distress prevailing in the country for the best of the interest of Formula 1.
Conversely, Ecclestone said that he did not believe that people who are demonstrating will have anything to do with F1.
Additionally, he put the blame on media for spoiling the scenario of the race in Bahrain while he said that the press should only support the facts rather than making up stories out of the issues.
Moreover, Red Bull Racing team principal, Christian Horner said that they have always enjoyed the Bahrain GP and will feel immensely pleased to be there this year.
