Bernie Ecclestone insists rescheduling of Bahrain Grand Prix will not be based on money – Formula 1
Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has said that rescheduling of the Bahrain Grand Prix will not be based on money.
The Bahrain GP decision, which has not yet been made, is going to be decided on June 3, 2011 in Barcelona by the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
Ecclestone said, “Nothing to do with money at all. Nothing, in any shape or form. What has happened in that whole area, in all those countries, is not good in any way, so we will have to wait and see.”
He went on to add, “This has to do with whether people... I don't know, to be honest, with this occasion whether people are concerned with their safety if they go or whether people are concerned with what has happened in the past.”
The civil unrest in Bahrain a few months ago is the reason why the Bahrain GP has been postponed. Originally, it was planned to be the season-opener of the 2011 season in March.
However, the organisers of the Bahrain GP were given a deadline of June 3, 2011 to decide whether they can hold a race this year. Earlier, they had a deadline of May 3, 2011 but the situation could not improve in the country and hence the decision-making
date was pushed forward by the FIA. A couple of days back, the organisers however said that they were ready to hold a race.
The final decision will be taken after discussing with the Management of Formula 1 and the Bahrain authorities. The FIA informed that the decision of holding the race this race this year was totally up to the organisers of Formula 1.
Spokesperson of the FIA told the media that the Government of Bahrain will tell them their decision after which they will decide whether or not they can hold the race this year.
Let’s see whether the Formula 1 circuit returns to the gulf state in the ongoing season or not.
