Bernie Ecclestone is Formula’s 1 thief – Ron Dennis
Ron Dennis was the team boss since 1981 and one has to admit that Ron is one of the most well known team principals of the sport. It was during his time that Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost raced against each other side by side. Ron Dennis enabled his team
to secure 7 constructors’ titles during his time and as a result because of his experience and exceptional knowledge of the sport, he is like an idol for most of the team bosses in the sport.
Ron left the sport earlier in 2010 and it was one of the saddest days in McLaren’s history. Dennis is still usually seen in the pits with McLaren and it is quite refreshing for the team to see a person like Ron Dennis supporting them.
However, Ron is not happy about some of the decisions the FIA’s CEO Bernie Ecclestone has been making since the past couple of months. McLaren’s former team principal believes that Ecclestone secured and then sold Formula 1’s television rights and became
a chief contributor as he began his reign of power that was from the beginning in the 1970s.
Bernie is most popularly known as the “supremo” of Formula 1 but since the 80-year-old has been a bit impatient and fluent in making decisions without consultation, things are getting a bit out of hand. Ron recalled the time when Bernie consolidated his
power.
“Bernie effectively stole Formula 1 from us. He used this commercial benefit to persuade the teams to accept a contract (the 1997 'Concorde Agreement’) that eliminated them from the passing of rights as had previously existed,” Dennis stated in a book.
Recently, Ferrari has been threatening the FIA as they want to be involved in the creation of a new rival series as soon as the Concorde Agreement contract expires in 2012.
However, Ecclestone is not worried at all about these developments as he believes that he has his own way of dealing with things. Bernie recently revealed that he wants to expand the sport in various parts of the world including Rome, Russia and Africa mainly.
His obsession of growing the sport is growing day after day as he is rushing into decisions without any consultation.
