Bernie Ecclestone launches verbal attack on FIA president Jean Todt – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 chief executive officer Bernie Ecclestone has launched a verbal attack on the International Automobile Federation (FIA) president Jean Todt mainly because of their plans to introduce four cylinder engines in Formula 1.
Ecclestone stated that Todt has not been able to stack up to his predecessor Max Mosley who is a very close friend of Bernie as well.
“Jean Todt is a poor man's Max. He has been travelling around the world doing what Max didn't do too much - kissing the babies and shaking the hands. It is probably good for the FIA but we don't need it in Formula One,” Ecclestone told the media.
This was bound to happen as the FIA wants to replace the current V8 engines with smaller capacity turbo-charged units, which is not a good idea according to Ecclestone.
Most of the spectators who go over to watch Formula 1 live enjoy the roaring V8 engines mostly but since the proposed new four cylinder engines are not as “loud” and powerful as the V8 engines, the sport is not going to be as enjoyable as it is for the spectators.
Other than that, he also stated that the reintroduction of the Kinetic Energy Recovery System for the 2011 Formula 1 season does not have any relevance to the sport but was only an example of “green technology.”
“It has just cost an awful lot of money and I don't know what it has proven. I don't think anyone knows or cares what it is or what it does. I get upset with these things,” said Ecclestone.
Moreover, he added that the Formula 1 management should control the rules and regulations of the sport rather than the FIA.
“The FIA is a joke,” added Bernie.
The 2011 season of Formula 1 is scheduled to begin on 27 March, 2011 in Australia. At the moment, all the teams are busy preparing themselves in the free practice sessions ahead of the race weekend.
