Bernie Ecclestone says Bahrain GP call still critical as security condition doubtful – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has said that Bahrain Grand Prix decision was unanimous but still the security condition in the country is doubtful.
Ecclestone said that the security condition report in the World Motor Sport Council meeting told that the situation in the Kingdom was peaceful, but the news coming from all around are not too good and tell a different story.
On Friday, the WMSC decided to give Bahrain Grand Prix a date in the already squeezed 2011 Formula 1 calendar and told that the security condition is back to normal.
Ecclestone however thinks that Bahrain is still a wait and see game.
He said, “We listened to that report from the FIA and that was saying there were no problems at all in Bahrain. But that is not what I am hearing and I think we can see that we need to be careful.”
The 80-year-old Formula 1 head once again stated that money is not a concern for him and if the race does not happen in October, he will return the money once again to Bahrain. Previously Ecclestone has already returned the token money to Bahrain as a gesture
of goodwill for the struggling nation.
Ecclestone further hinted that the date given to Bahrain can still be revised if the security conditions do not go back to normal around October.
“We can change this Oct 30 date by having a vote by fax if necessary. It can be done, and fast. Better that we move Bahrain to the end of the season and, if things are safe and well, then that is fine, we can go,” added Ecclestone.
FIA Chief Jean Todt has already said that the Bahrain Grand Prix decision was taken after taking into consideration all parties and their interests, but it can still be reassessed if the security condition in the country is not back to normal.
