Bernie Ecclestone says Lewis Hamilton has decided to join Mercedes – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 CEO, Bernie Ecclestone has said that Lewis Hamilton of McLaren has decided to leave his current team at the end of this year and has made up his mind to join Mercedes in 2013.
Hamilton’s deal with the British team is going to end at the conclusion of this season. Moreover, there have been a lot of speculations that the 2008 world champion is not going to renew his contract and will move to the Brackley based team in the coming
season as a potential replacement of the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher who according to reports will retire after this year.
Furthermore, there have been many rumours that the British driver started thinking about leaving the Woking based team after winning the Hungarian and Italian grands prix.
However, Bernie believes that the 27-year-old had taken the decision before scoring wins in two of the last four races. He also said that he is not sure about what the Briton will do exactly in the future.
“I don't think Hamilton knows what he will do,” Ecclestone said. “These last couple or three races he has been doing very well. Before that, why he was upset I don't know, but he was definitely going to move no matter what. He had made up his mind that he
was going. Whether he has changed now a little bit I don't know.”
It will be important to mention that BBC pundit, Eddie Jordan has recently said that Hamilton’s agreement with the Silver Arrows will soon come into the sight as both the parties have already made the necessary negotiations regarding the deal.
“Hamilton and Mercedes have already agreed personal terms and a deal could be imminent,” Jordan said.
Additionally, he said that Bernie made it quite clear that the record championship holder, Schumacher will leave his team at the end of this season which implies that Hamilton will join Mercedes as the replacement of the veteran German driver.
“Bernie Ecclestone made it clear to me live on television on Sunday that Schumacher was leaving, although Schumacher later played it down,” he added.
