Bernie Ecclestone says London Grand Prix lacks government support – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 CEO, Bernie Ecclestone has expressed doubts about the occurrence of the London Grand Prix as he believes that it lacks support from the government.
Ecclestone has shown a great interest towards the idea of the London GP and has been very keen about adding it to the F1 calendar. Moreover, he said that they have arranged the sponsors also and are working on the feasibilities of the race. However, he has
recently said that the city government has not provided any kind of support in this regard.
Nonetheless, he said that they are ready to make any contribution which will be needed for the race and will even provide the necessary support to the government.
“I don't think the government would be prepared to put the required amount of money behind it,” Ecclestone told City AM. “We would make large contribution towards race. That is whatever it takes to get it done with all permissions. We could help
government and council with their costs.”
Furthermore, he also discharged the bid to host the grand prix around the Olympic Park in London.
“We wouldn't go to the Olympic Park. I don't think anybody is serious about a grand prix in London,” he said.
Nonetheless, he is still feeling hopeful for the race in London and said that it will be a great opportunity for the country. In addition, he said that he is proud of England as they have hosted this year’s Olympics tremendously well and asserted that hosting
a race will be an awesome task too which would take lesser resources.
“I think they did a good job with the Olympics. It is the first time I have been proud of England. They showed that England can do it if they have to,” he added.
It will be important to mention that McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton has expressed huge support for the race in his homeland and said that it will definitely be an incredible event. Additionally, Hamilton’s teammate, Jenson Button also supported the idea
and said that he would love to race in London.
Let’s see whether the idea becomes reality in the future or not.
