Bernie Ecclestone says deadline for rescheduling 2011 Bahrain GP can be pushed forward – Formula 1
Chief executive officer of Formula 1 Management Bernie Ecclestone has said that the decision regarding the rescheduling of the postponed 2011 Bahrain Grand Prix can be delayed if there is some hope of hosting the race.
It was revealed earlier on that the managing body would come up with a decision regarding this matter before May 1, 2011 but due to the current situation in the country and uncertainty of the organisers, Bernie believes that this date should be pushed forward.
The Bahrain Grand Prix was originally planned as the season opening race of the 2011 Formula 1 season but due to the political unrest and protests in the country, it was postponed.
Bahrain is currently under a state of emergency for 3 months and until the end of this period, it is believed that the decision of rescheduling the Bahrain GP is out of question.
The International Automobile Federation (FIA) gave the organisers a lot of time to think about the matter but the Government of Bahrain is persistent on not holding the race this year.
However, nothing can stop Mr. Ecclestone from what he wants to do and he still believes that the race can take place this year provided the organisers of the venue are given some more time to think about their decision.
“We need to wait a little bit to see exactly how progress is made. I suppose we'd be safe by early June or something like that. Things can change in a couple of weeks...so you don't know, all of a sudden everything might be peaceful in a month's time and
they are happy to run the event and so we are happy to be there,” Ecclestone told the media.
While most of the critics believe that holding the race in this situation is not possible at all, therefore the managing authority should make a decision as soon as possible.
The main reason why this decision should be made as quickly as possible is that the teams have planned their respective seasons in a particular way and if a Bahrain Grand Prix comes in the middle all of a sudden, the teams will not have a sufficient amount
of time to prepare for it completely.
The 2011 Formula 1 season was expected to be the first season in the history of the sport to hold 20 races in a single year but it seems that it will not be possible anymore.
However, Bernie still wants it to happen but in the end, it is going to be up to the FIA and organisers of the venue to decide whether it is safe to hold the race or not.
