Bernie Ecclestone says he cannot bail out Sauber – Formula 1 News
Formula 1 chief executive officer, Bernie Ecclestone has said that he cannot bail Sauber out of their poor financial condition as he has the responsibility to treat
all the teams equally.
Sauber team principal, Monisha Kaltenborn has recently said that they are going through a very difficult time at the moment. She said that they don’t have the required
funds to make the necessary developments in their car to perform well in the forthcoming races. In addition, she said that they don’t have the sponsors and funding to carry on their development process in a profound manner. Therefore, she insisted that F1
should take some essential steps to help the smaller teams for the goodwill of the sport.
However, Ecclestone has insisted that they have made the agreements to treat all the contenders equally. Moreover, he said that he cannot imagine the sport without
the presence of Hinwil based squad.
“We have agreements that require us to treat all the teams equally,” Ecclestone told SRF. “They're a good team and I'm sure there is more than one possible
buyer. I don't want to imagine F1 without Sauber.”
He also stated that the Swiss team will hopefully find some new sponsors in the long run. Although, he expressed that the struggling team deserves to be helped,
he is unable to provide any assistance as he has to maintain equality in F1.
“Ideally, they will find new sponsors in the long term, but even companies who are willing to support them in the short term would be fine. The team deserves to
be helped. I don't know exactly what their financial situation is, but I know it's not as good as it should be,” he said.
“There are others that are spending more money than they have,” he added.
At present, the Swiss squad are standing at eighth place in the constructors’ championship with 7 points. Besides, they are ahead of Williams and behind Toro Rosso.
Let’s see how they perform in the forthcoming races and whether they will able to resolve their financial problems by finding the potential sponsors or not.
