Bernie Ecclestone says he has no plans for retirement – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 CEO, Bernie Ecclestone has hit back at the ongoing claims that he has grown too old to handle the sport and insisted that he still has a lot of plans to pursue in the near future.
After the season finale, a dispute arouse regarding Sebastian Vettel’s overtake which according to a video was during the yellow flag because the warning lights were flashing in his cockpit. Eventually, Ferrari took the matter to FIA for the necessary clarification.
Meanwhile, Bernie called the Scarlet team’s appeal a joke. Moreover, he asserted that the results have been finalised and the veteran German driver has won the championship title.
In response, FIA declared the pass completely legal and the Italian team considered the matter closed. Lately, the president of Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo commented on Ecclestone’s assertion and suggested that he should take some rest now as he has reached
old age.
However, the 82-year-old has completely discharged the claims of Montezemolo and has said that he considers himself good enough for F1 and has no plans to retire at the moment.
“I don't feel 82, and as a matter of fact I'm now going to Geneva, then to Istanbul to see if we can get back the Turkish GP and participate at the World Council,” Ecclestone told Gazzetta dello Sport.
In addition, he said that he has many ideas in his mind which he is looking forward to follow so as to take the sport to new destinations in the future.
“And I'm not stopping here, I have a thousand more ideas,” he said. “Do I look in such a bad shape, two weeks after the USA GP that I wanted and somehow created?”
“I'm 82 and nobody can deny that. But time ago I used to discuss things with an 88-year-old gentleman when Luca was a 40-year-old. His name was Enzo Ferrari,” he added.
Nevertheless, he said that he has a good understanding with the Italian and they don’t have any kind of hard feelings for each other. In the end, he said that he respects the opinion of the 65-year-old.
