Bernie Ecclestone to give Bahrain more time, suggests June deadline – Formula 1
Formula 1 supremo, Bernie Ecclestone, wants to give Bahrain more time to settle their domestic issues so that the Formula 1 world can visit the Kingdom for race. Bernie suggested a deadline extension until June and hoped that the things will be well by then.
Bahrain Grand Prix organizers were given a deadline until 1st of May to decide wheatear they want the race to be held or not. As the deadline has approached, Bernie has urged to give the kingdom just a little bit extension.
“We need to wait a little bit to see exactly how progress is made. I suppose we'd be safe by early June or something like that,” said Bernie.
He further added, “Things can change in a couple of weeks...so you don't know. All of a sudden everything might be peaceful in a month's time and they are happy to run the event and so we are happy to be there.”
Bahrain Grand Prix was scheduled to be held on the 13th of March but due to a sudden uprising in the Middle East, Bahraini Formula 1 track officials called the race off. Bernie was the first voice in favour of Bahrain and said that the race will
be rescheduled to help the struggling nation.
Previously some activists send a message to Bernie suggesting that the race should not be reinstated unless the demands of the sufferers are fulfilled. The message also urged that Formula 1 world should help the protesters by not coming to Bahrain and waiting
for some good moment.
As the deadline is approaching, Bernie thinks that one or two more months will be enough for Bahrain to settle down their issues. Many teams and officials are still against the race being re instated as Williams’ team clearly stated that the team would have
boycotted the race in first place due to tight schedule.
For now, 1st May remains the dead line for Bahrain and the final decision will be taken by FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile) boss Jean Todt.
