Bernie Ecclestone to send his own inspector to oversee the situation in Bahrain – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 Management’s CEO Bernie Ecclestone has said that he is going to send his own personal “inspector” in order to assess the situation in Bahrain as he now admits that the International Automobile Federation (FIA) failed to understand the situation
in the country.
According to some news reports and Human Rights activists in Bahrain, the situation of the country is not getting better at all and the people of country are not willing to hold such an event at the moment since the country is going through a major political
crisis.
Former FIA president Max Mosley also stated that holding the Bahrain Grand Prix in 2011 is “out of the question” and that the teams hold the right to make the final decision if such a situation arises.
“I am speaking to [FIA president] Jean Todt and we are having a good look at it. I wish I knew more. We've been told there are no problems. The FIA said everything is fine, that [Gracia] met people. So who do you believe?” said Ecclestone.
As a result, Bernie claims that he is now going to send his own representative who is going to evaluate the situation after which the FIA will come up with a final decision regarding this matter.
Other than that, the meeting held by the members of the Formula 1 Teams Association has also given its final verdict about this decision. The FIA has confirmed that FOTA has questioned the decision to move the Indian Grand Prix in order to accommodate the
Bahrain Grand Prix through a formal letter.
“We have received the letter and we are considering it. The FIA is a transparent governing body and we welcome all input in the matter,” a spokesperson told the media.
Keeping in mind the current situation of the country, this was bound to happen as the emergency period in Bahrain was recently lifted after which the protests have restarted resulting in more violence.
The FIA and the organisers of the Bahrain Grand Prix on the other hand thought differently as they claim that the situation will get better until October when the race is expected to take place.
