Bernie Ecclestone trying to axe 2013 V4 engines through commission meeting – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone is still trying to get a vote against the V4 engines which are to be imposed from the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Ecclestone has been reported to summon a meeting of the Formula 1 commission to vote against the V4 engines once and for all.
Recent media reports have claimed that the 80-year-old Formula 1 head is going to summon a meeting on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 to discuss the future of V8 engines in Formula 1 sports.
Ecclestone still thinks that the International Automobile Federation (FIA) boss Jean Todt bypassed every official body to make the decision about the engines in the Formula 1 sport.
Recently in a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council, it was decided that the V4’s will be brought to the Formula 1 world from the 2013 season, but Ecclestone is reported to go as far as a legal challenge to save the V8 engines.
Todt presented the idea of V4 engines in order to make Formula 1 greener and a little less expensive sport so that some smaller teams can get their hands on it. Todt also commented that V4’s will reduce the cost of fuel which is the requirement of Formula
1 as expenses of the teams are escalating alarmingly.
Ecclestone, on the other hand, said on numerous occasions that Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsports and is only famous for its engine voice and for the Ferrari. He also said that shifting to V4 will lose both charms in the race and much of the viewership
will be lost by this shift. The 80-year-old also said that F1 is not a sport for smaller teams.
Formula One Teams Association has stated that shifting the technology to V4 engines will cost more than the current cost of the car which is not acceptable.
However, the decision on V4 remains firm and it will be interesting to see how far Ecclestone’s efforts go to save the V8 machines beyond the 2012 season.
