Formula 1 CEO, Bernie Ecclestone has said that he wants to have more races in America on the calendar, ahead of the 2012 United States Grand Prix which is going to be held at Circuit of The Americas this weekend.
Ecclestone said that he is feeling great that F1 has returned to the USA after five years and he is earnestly looking forward to see more grands prix there.
“It’s a world championship, so you need the US,” the F1 chief executive is quoted by German news agency DPA.
Furthermore, he said that America can easily host more race events like Europe. Therefore, he is hoping to add more races on the calendar which will be held in the USA.
“America is about as big as Europe. So we should have the same number of races [in each],” said Ecclestone.
In addition, he said that F1 is not followed much in America. Conversely, US-naturalised Mario Andretti said that they are happy for the fans in Texas.
“I can only say thank god for the Texans,” Andretti said.
In addition, it will be important to mention that all the teams and the drivers also supported the race in America and are positively looking forward to see the event in the future too.
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that this race is a very good chance to make the event more successful in the future.
“This is a golden opportunity for the sport to finally put down roots and find a long-term home [in the US],” Whitmarsh said.
Besides, all the drivers are very excited to test their cars on an entirely new track in the Friday practice and are expecting a strong race in Austin, Texas.
Meanwhile, Circuit spokeswoman Julie Loignon said they are making the necessary preparations for the race ahead.
“Things are very hectic, but everyone is making steady progress,” Loignon said.
It will be extremely interesting to see how all the contenders perform in the approaching race and who becomes the first ever winner. Additionally, let’s see whether more races in America are added to the calendar or not.
