Bernie Ecclestone wants more innovation in the Formula One game, suggests creating ‘fake rain’
Formula 1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone has said that the game needs more innovations to make it more interesting. In an interview to F1’s official website he suggested the use of artificial rain in circuits to spice it up. He believes this will lead to increased
overtaking opportunities.
“You have a completely different picture when it is wet,” the 80-year-old said.”We always had the most exciting races in the wet so let’s think of making rain.”
Ecclestone said that the hot circuits and the debris that the new Pirelli rubber leaves on the circuit make overtaking particularly hard. He said that artificial rain for 20 minutes or for 10 laps can be used to make the race more interesting and guarantee
suspense.
On the use of movable rear wing this season, Ecclestone commented that it will be hard to utilise since there are strict rules on how and when to use it. He also noted that it can cause some problems in the early races as it has not been practically tested.
Talking about the four-cylinder engines rule, that is going to be implemented from 2013, he said, “As long as the sound is still there it’s fine with me.”
When asked about the discrepancy in money that big teams make compared to the smaller ones, he said it was a part of every game. He cited the example of soccer saying that Real Madrid can afford a $ 60-million player, while there are teams with a total budget
less than that.
Talking about team Williams’ stock floatation he said “I think it’s good. Others should also think about it, as I believe that there are enough interested buyers out there.”
He also believes that women drivers could be running the sport after five or six years.
