Bernie Supports Schumacher, His Old Friend
Bernie Ecclestone, the Group CEO of Formula One and Michael Schumacher, the seven-time world champion of the sport stand as two of the most influential names in contemporary world of auto racing. Besides being important parts of the same sport the two shares a lot more like, success, prestige and a long friendship. Now as the Mercedes driver is striving hard to survive among the fast and furious young drivers, his friend has come up to his support.
The two talked to the Formula One official website telling more about their careers, friendship and Ecclestone shares his ultimate belief in the superstar racer.
Bernie Ecclestone started off telling that the friendship dates back to some two decades as they both met in Monza when Ecclestone helped the young racer in shifting his team from Jordan to Benetton.
He explained that he wanted to see him in a competitive team as he was able to see a star in him right then and indeed he did develop into a magnificent racing star over the years.
Ecclestone further told that though a league of German racers had already tried their luck before him in Formula One but none succeeded however, the CEO told that he was able to see a great racer in him right at his first race in Spa, though, he added smiling, he had never guessed the young lad would once be able to get World Championship title seven times.
While answering if the Supremo had learned anything from the passionate racer he replied, “Michael is a proper guy.” He added that it is always great to know that Schumacher knows where he stands and where he has to go.
While talking about the icon’s comeback, Ecclestone told that he read that in a newspaper and was happy to know that the racer still had enough self-confidence. He further told that the people at Mercedes also knew his strength and believed in him firmly.
He also told that the media hype created as his return was tremendous as the masses as well as the reporters embraced him back cheerfully and Schumacher had kept Formula One in the news this way or the other all through the season for which he was thankful to him.
Bernie moreover stated that he still considers Michael’s come back as a gift for Formula One, though he agreed that the comeback had not been exactly the way he expected yet his presence in the game is a pleasure in itself to keep pulling media and fans.
Bernie was further inquired if he would want to see Michael under the Formula One umbrella again next year, for which he replied that he would love that as he still thinks the compassion and confidence of the driver is just the same and so is his skills.
Well, Bernie was happy to disclose that Michael does not only give a great driving record to the sport but also he took the racing career to new horizons. He has lived a life of a hero claiming more fans than Hollywood stars. He told that much of the culture that Formula One drivers now follow is his legacy. He had always been successful in living larger than life.
Ecclestone agrees to the fact that he Schumacher had not been able to stand at podium even once all through the season while twelve of the races had already gone, however, he exclaimed that there is much more than this about the driver as he does not have to prove that he is a good racer, the world already knows that.
Currently, the German stands at ninth place in the Drivers’ Championship having bagged just thirty eight points so far. Well, seven more races are yet to go, let’s see if he would be able to win a race this season or the rest of the rounds would go with the same little luck.
