Berntsson Sailing Team’s Johnie Berntsson disappointed after losing to Torvar Mirsky: Agro Gold Cup
Berntsson Sailing Team’s Johnie Berntsson gave a tough time to Australia’s Torvar Mirsky on The Wave Muscat, but his effort was not enough to win him the title as he was judged down 2-3, in the sudden death final race. The Swedish sailor is disappointed
with their defeat, however, they have managed to penetrate into the 2011 Monsoon Cup, which will be held in Malaysia.
Berntsson faced several penalties during his final competition against Mirsky and tumbled down. He would have been on the top in the end, had he not indulged in any penalties. However, reaching the final match has already secured a place for Berntsson at
the 2011 Monsoon cup in Malaysia, but losing in the ultimate competition has disappointed the Swede.
While speaking to local reporters at the conclusion of 2011 Agro Group Gold Cup, Berntsson said, “We’re disappointed but it was a great performance overall. The finals were really tight and we felt like it could have gone either way. We collected too many
penalties though and lost the last pre-start and that really cost us. Torvar did a great job and was tough to beat so congratulations to him.”
He further added, “Maybe in an hour we’ll be happy but right now we’re really disappointed because we came so close to winning. We’ve got a 3 year aim to finish on the podium so we’re progressing well towards that. We’re happy to get an automatic invite
to Malaysia. That was our goal.”
