Berrick Barnes motivated to lift his side in the absence of Matt Giteau during RWC- Rugby News
Berrick Barnes, who has been included in the Wallabies Rugby World Cup squad, is committed to boost his side in the absence of stalwart Matt Giteau. Barnes has been preferred over seasoned Giteau at the fly-half’s position for the up coming RWC, kicking
off just after three weeks in New Zealand. Barnes told the media on August 18 that he will not let the selectors down with his performance.
Barnes also told the media that he is quite aware of the tough nature of upcoming matches during the world showpiece and his position will be the key for Wallabies. Barnes added that, “No doubt they'll send cattle my way. But they send cattle at anyone that
stands at 10, so I won't be surprised if they're coming down that channel at whoever's there. I'm confident going into games and I've just got to trust what I've done off the field is going to be enough to get me through on it.”
Barnes shifted his conversation and said that he has been working on his defence techniques and has got no worries about that. He added that, “I've been out of the system here for a while. I haven't been in the squad or training with them, but I don't think
too much has changed from years gone by so I've just got to pick up those sort of things.”
Wallabies head coach, Robbie Deans, made the announcement of his 30-member squad for Rugby World Cup today on August 18 and made a few notable changes in his team. Robbie Deans sacked Matt Giteau from the RWC for his poor performance during their Tri-Nations
warm-up clash against Samoa on July 17.
Berrick Barnes has been playing for Wallabies for the past four years. He made his debut for Australia in 2007, playing against Japan in the Webb Ellis Trophy. The fly-half has earned 115 points in his 23 appearance for his national side. He has scored his
first try of the career just three minutes play in his maiden appearance.
Rugby World Cup is kicking off on September 9 in New Zealand.
