Berrick Barnes provokes Reds to attack
Berrick Barnes, the Waratahs fly half, has thrown a challenge to Reds to play upfront on Saturday’s clash in Sydney, between the two sides.
Debatably the most dangerous and attacking side of last year’s Super Rugby season, Reds, haven’t come up to the mark in this tournament so far. Considering last weekend match’s one point victory over Western Force, we can assume that Reds have probably lost
the touch and lack coordination.
The former Queenslander, Berrick Barnes, has insisted his side on not to give up themselves in to a defensive strategy and play on the front foot with the Reds, who have lost their track.
Barnes said, “Expectantly it's not a tedious grudge game, last weekend against the Force wasn't too nice-looking.”
Talking about the Saturday’s clash at ANZ Stadium, he hopefully added, “I'm certain we'll see a few tries Saturday night and I anticipate that's the case. I think both teams will go in with an aggressive state of mind and not a blotted one.”
Quade Cooper was paired with the 24 year old star in Wallabies in the midfield. Barnes believes Cooper can pull off a good competition in midfield, just like he did in Wallaby’s November tour. Mentioning Cooper he said, “Clearly he's the leading 10 in Australia
and would have to be close to the finest in the contest.”
Barnes declared Cooper as a major threat to Reds and all the opposing teams in Super Rugby this year. He said, “Cooper’s got so many threats; not just his foot work which fans like to witness a lot, but his booting game's right up there and even his long
kicking game has taken an explicit jump forward from recent years as well.”
Meanwhile, Chris Hickey, the Waratahs coach, repeated Barnes’ speculations and reviews, though he didn’t chop up his statement with words for Reds’ much-admired attacking expertise.
He said, “I guess when you're the self-proclaimed entertainers it puts a lot of pressure on you to turn up and entertain doesn't it.”
Hickey believes that the pressure on both sides will turn out to be entertaining and both sides will put a good fight.
