Berry Henson comes out clubhouse leader at Clearwater Masters – Asian Development Tour
The Clearwater Masters of the Asian Development Tour teed-off today at the scenic par-72, Clearwater Sanctuary Golf Resort in Perak.
The first round is turning out to be an exciting one, as young players were in red numbers on the score board.
Berry Henson from United States stood up tall and carded a superb round of seven-under par, 65 to emerge as the clubhouse leader after his round. The tall American had a great day and was hitting the ball long off the tees. He took advantage of his early
morning start as conditions were a little easy for players.
Henson was superb with his iron shots and made seven birdies for his round. He did not make a single mistake during the day and was bogey free. The veteran American has taken an early lead and is now one shot clear of the field.
Henson claimed his Asian Tour card this season by successfully making it through the qualifying stage. There were three consecutive birdies on his score card also. Henson looked in trouble at one hole, but he successfully made his par putt to emerge as clubhouse
leader.
The 31-year-old Henson after his superb round, said, “I got off to a great start. I started with a birdie and from there I began to cruise. I hit about 17 greens and missed only one green which was right on the fringe. It was a pretty easy day.”
It was a text book golf display by Henson, as he looks in great shape to win this Championship.
Henson recently missed the cut in the Indonesian Masters. He then worked hard on his swing which showed results after this round. This is a great opportunity for the American to capitalise on this score and maintain his lead into the second round also.
The top contender of the tournament and local favourite, Akhmal Tarmizee is still on the course and completing the round. Conditions of the course were in immaculate shape, as it was playing a little easy in the morning.
