Bert De Waele wins final stage as Samuel Dumoulin takes overall lead in Paris-Correze 2011
Landbouwkrediet team’s Bert De Waele won the second stage of Paris Correze 2011 on Thursday, August 4. Samuel Dumoulin maintained his overall leader’s yellow jersey.
The race started in Objat and ended in Chaumeil. The 36-year-old Belgian professional road racing cyclists took the total of 4 hours, 31 minutes and 58 seconds to cover the distance of 178.7 kilometres.
Thomas Degand of Veranda's Willems – Accent was runner-up and Amindo Fonseca Bretagne – Schuller finished third with the same timing of Belgium.
The group of seven cyclists made their breakaway lead including, Yohann Gene, Guillaume Bonnafond, Lemoine, Vernaekt, Bouhanni, Sylvain Georges and Daryl Impey. All of them got away and built a decent advantage of 1 minute and 15 seconds.
Sylvain maintain his lead in the first four climbs of the stage ahead of Dimitri Champion. In fifth, Bonnafond gained a lead of 1 minute and 10 seconds over the peloton while Ag2r La Mondiale rider Dimitri showed a tremendous effort was able to take a lead.
Dimitri maintained his lead in the sixth climb ahead of Fabien Schmidt (FDJ) and Yukiya Arashiro (Europcar).
However, in the final sprint Landbouwkrediet cyclist Bert De Waele launched an attack and took a lead with the help of his team he crossed the finish line ahead of the other cyclists.
Bjorn Thurau (Team NSP) was good rider and tried to catch the leading cyclists but failed to maintain his pace and took 13th place with the difference of 5 seconds ahead of Fabien Schmidt (FDJ) and Geert Verheyen (Landbouwkrediet).
Recently, Bert took ninth place in Hel van het Mergelland. He also grabbed overall 12th place in La Fleche Wallonne and fourth place in Amstel gold race in 2010.
Samuel Dumoulin took the overall lead with the timing of 9 hours, 25 minutes and 23 seconds while Bert De Waele was in second spot 4 seconds behind Samuel. Thomas Degand was in third place and Aurelien Passeron grabbed fourth place.
Sylvain Georges (Big Mat - Auber 93) took the overall mountain classification ahead of Dimitri Champion. Bjorn Thuaru took the title of Best Young Rider ahead of Matthieu Boulo.
