Bert The Alert to sweep the Bibendum Amateur Riders’ Stakes (Handicap) at Goodwood
The Class 5 Bibendum Amateur Riders’ Stakes (Handicap) will be held at Goodwood over a mile and a furlong on Friday, 8th June. The race has brought together a line-up of sixteen four-year and older runners who will contest for the £2,496 prize money.
It is quite a talented and versatile line-up with many who have raced and won during the new season.
One of the most interesting entries is Bert The Alert, Proclamation’s four-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Megalex. He has been active four times during the season, his kick start was quite impressive but the two tries in between witnessed him going low on the rankings. However, the four-year-old did not wait very long to bounce back into form and thus ended with a second position in the most recent try.
He conquered the new season by winning the Lingfieldpark.Co.UK Maiden Stakes on 13th January at Lingfield over a mile and four furlongs.
He won as the 11/10 favourite of the race while riding with Fergus Sweeney and the two led the runner up of the race, Broughton Sands, by a neck’s margin. Coming at terms with the third position was Vehement.
He then finished fourth in the Cyprium Grill At Marriott Lingfield Handicap on 18th February at Lingfield over a mile and four furlongs. The race was won by Crunched and the 6/5 favourite of the race, Belle Josephine, ended third right before Bert The Alert.
The third try was a further dreadful failure as the bay gelding ended fifth in the Play Big Money Totejackpot Today Juvenile Hurdle on 9th April at Plumpton over two miles. The race was won by the 7/4 favourite, Greyfriars Drummer, who led the track by nine lengths.
Even though the last two races had cost Bert The Alert quite a bit, he improved drastically in the Cenkos Channel Islands handicap on 7th May at L’ancresse over a mile and four furlongs.
Uniform Ruby won the race and finishing the closest to her was Bert The Alert, setting the 4/6 favourite of the race, Penang Cinta, third.
He has recovered from the losing phase and has the potential to beat the line-up today.
