Netherlands head coach, Bert van Marwijk, has expressed determination that his side will beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 by at least two-goal margin to keep their Euro 2012 hopes alive.
The Oranje suffered back-to-back defeats in their first two Group B fixtures against Denmark and Germany respectively. However, they can still make progression to the quarter-finals if they manage to emerge victorious against A Seleccao by at least a two-goal
margin while the Germans defeat the Danish Dynamite in their respective tie.
Although, the Flying Dutchmen’s chances of making progression to the knockout round are very slim, Van Marwijk has expressed confidence that his side can qualify for the next phase of the competition.
“We have to go for it here and need Germany to win. We know from the start we have to win with a two-goal difference and I have that in mind. We have to go for it and that’s what the tactics will be based on. You’ll see that as well”, the former Borussia
Dortmund boss was quoted as saying to the media.
The 60-year-old tactician went on to stress that his side will try to play their own game and then hope to have a favourable result from Die Mannschaft.
“After the Germany defeat we were deeply disappointed but we knew we had to beat Portugal by at least two goals to make progression. This is based on the fact that Germany will win [against Denmark] - I've got nothing to add to that statement. We’re just
going to play our game and wait and see what Germany does”, Van Marwijk concluded.
The Oranje started proceedings against the Germans brightly, but it was Die Mannschaft who took the lead in the 24th minute through Mario Gomez. The Bayern Munich striker doubled his side’s advantage in the 38th minute to further diminish
the Flying Dutchmen’s hopes of securing a good result.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 managed to reduce the deficit in the 73rd minute, but it was too little to change the outcome of the match at the end.
Netherlands will lock horns against Portugal in their final group stage fixture of the European Championship at Metalist Kharkiv Stadium on Sunday, June 17.
