Van Marwijk’s position as the Oranje head coach had been under severe threat following the Flying Dutchmen’s woeful Euro 2012 campaign.
Despite entering in the competition as one of the favourites to succeed, the 2010 World Cup runners-up crashed out of the tournament from the group stages after suffering three defeats in a row at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984.
Following the European Championship disappointment, the Dutch trainer faced strong criticism from the players, the faithful Netherlands fans and the media.
The 60-year-old, whose contract ran until the end of Euro 2016, held a meeting with KNVB to discuss the future, and both parties were reportedly left with no choice at the end but to part ways immediately.
The KNVB director, Bert van Oostveen, was extremely disappointed, but confessed that they had to take a bold decision.
“We are grateful to Van Marwijk. He performed exceptionally well at the 2010 World Cup and in getting us to the top of the Fifa World Ranking. I personally had a very good feeling about our co-operation. Of course it is sad to part company with him, but
we must be realistic”, Van Oostveen was quoted as saying to the media.
Van Marwijk, who took charge of the Oranje from Marco van Basten in 2008, was also disheartened after parting ways with the Dutch football team.
“I have severe doubts, but have decided to take this step anyway”, the Dutch trainer said while talking to journalists.

campaign, guiding the Flying Dutchmen to nine wins from their 10 fixtures.
