Berties Dream expected to dominate Irish Jockeys Association Hurdle
Berties Dream is expected to dominate proceedings in the Irish Jockeys Association Hurdle at Thurles in Ireland on Tuesday, April 3, 2012. The triumphant horse will walk away with a cash prize of €8,280.
The stamina of all runners will be tested over 3 miles. Going is expected to be good in the race, which is scheduled to start at 5:45 GMT. A total of nine runners had initially lined up for action, but Baily Rock has been ruled out due to an injury.
This means that only eight runners will entertain the spectators at Thurles and their names are as follows: Berties Dream, Maggie Connolly, Adams Island, Beckett Rock, Dancing Tornado, Empire Theatre, Copsiano and Dog Barrel Hill.
The experience of Berties Dream might work in his favour today, thus the bookies have awarded him with the best odds for the race. The punters will also have faith in his abilities and they will be placing quite a few bets on him.
Henry De Bromhead’s trained runner has participated in 20 hurdles until now, winning four of them. Although his strike rate is not much impressive, he has managed to secure a couple of runner up and third places each, which shows that he is quite capable
of fighting for top positions.
The nine-year-old gelding is in good rhythm and he managed to win a race at the start of this year. He was a touch rusty in his most recent appearance, as he finished fifth in it, but he has the tools to make a strong comeback.
D. N. Russell will be partnering today’s favourite at Thurles. The young jockey has been impressive in his career until now, winning seven races over hurdles. However, he will need to improve his strike rate in order to challenge the best in the business.
Other than Berties Dream, Maggie Connolly will also be a strong contender for winning the Irish Jockeys Association Hurdle, as she is a quality runner. She has entered eight hurdles until now, winning just one.
W. P. Mullins’ trainee will be partnered by seasoned jockey Ruby Walsh, who is a spectacular rider, as he has a great strike rate in races over hurdles.
The other runners will find it hard to challenge the top two favourites, but nothing can be accurately predicted in racing.
