http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s Ryan Bertrand has gone on to claim that the club should go on and extend Ashley Cole’s stay at the club as soon as they possibly can, because the team can’t afford to lose the defender.
Over the last couple of weeks, it has become apparent that Ashley Cole’s future at Chelsea is in doubt. The player is yet to put pen to paper on a new contract at the club, and so far negotiations between the two parties aren’t moving along smoothly.
It was also rumoured that the defender went on turn down a one year contract extension offer from the club, on the basis that he wasn’t happy with the terms that were being offered in the deal.
Despite that fact, Bertrand feels that the team needs to do their best to keep a hold of Cole, since the defender has been a stand out performer from the team, and because the youngsters can learn a lot from him.
"Yes, I want Ashley to stay," Bertrand told reporters.
"He has been a fantastic servant for the club and he rightly deserves what he is asking for.”
"It doesn’t affect me and my game because I am getting plenty of chances to play.”
"I have learnt a lot from him and the longer he stays the more I will continue to learn.”
"I probably could have a bit of banter with him about me taking his place in the team because we have a really good relationship but we’re more than happy playing together and to leave it as it is."
Bertrand, who is twenty three years old has been awarded with a new five year deal at Chelsea, based on the performances that the has been putting in with the team.
He is currently being used as a utility player, with no specific position being designated to him. However, should Cole end up leaving, then it wouldn’t be hard to see him move back and make the left back position at the club his own.
Nonetheless, it is now a wait to see just what the future holds for Cole and whether he sticks around at the club or not.
