I don't want to go as far as Scotland (just somewhere near London)

I want to go to one or two cities other than London. What are the most famous and prettiest cities in the UK (other than London)?

Thanks!

  1. The Cornish coast is BREATHTAKING, and sooo charming. It's a pretty train ride from London.

The Cotswolds are also very lovely and easy to get to from London.

The Lake District is very picturesque. Beatrix Potter used to go there for inspiration and wrote many of her books there!

York is a really historical little town, and you can go to the Bronte Parsonage. It's really awesome. You can actually walk along the same fields of heather that she wrote about in "Wuthering Heights"!

    Other cities to see are:

Oxford: really pretty, historical & super easy to get to from London. Go punting while you're there, and be sure to check out Christ College where "Alice in Wonderland" was inspired.

Bath: SO pretty. Be sure to go to the Roman baths! There is a really pretty garden there, too. It's where my parents got engaged, actually. : )

Stratford upon Avon is really pretty, and you can visit some of Shakespeare's stomping grounds. Go to Mary Arden's house. It's super interesting.

Cambridge isn't as pretty as Oxford, but it is still pretty.

If you're into Harry Potter consider going on one of the tours to where the films were shot. The locations are gorgeous, and the tour is so much fun.

    Have an awesome trip!

  2. Liverpool! Beautiful architecture, great museums, river and trendy quays, great china town, two very different cathedrals(with no charge to go in),great real ale pubs and lovely people.Oh and the Beatles.

  3. A city named Whales?.

  4. oxford is definitely a great place to go, very historical (over 1000 years old!) and obviously world-famous for it's university. it's easy and relatively inexpensive to get to from london (train's faster but a little bit more expensive, bus is cheaper but longer but you get to drive through pretty countryside). shakespeare's stratford-upon avon is a quaint town also not too far from london. it's nice to walk through, even if you're not a big fan of shakespeare. bath is also very nice, a gorgeous city rising about the river valley. stonehenge is on the way to bath, so you could visit that as well. all of these places are within about 2-3 hours or each other and of london.

  5. Why not Scotland it's beautiful ?

  6. Try the city of Bath (quaint, beautiful & shopping), or Whales (cool castles) or Stonehenge (you have to take a train out there- but it's worth it- just make sure you get there before 4pmish when it gets dark (at least in the fall it gets dark at 4- not sure about the winter)

  7. Canterbury in Kent is the home of the Church of England, SE of London 1 or 1Hr 30 by train / coach.

Bath is good as is Bristol, West of London, see google maps.

Cambridge, and  Oxford, very pretty areas.

York and it's castle, and a lovely laid back lifestyle and surrounding countryside.
