The eggs cannot be moved from the lab and have to be imaged every 4 hours in a public, yet controlled area, and radiography machines are out, as they are too expensive...so how can this be done??

  1. How much detail do you need?  You could build a box to hold the egg so it was cradled by opaque material, then take a digital picture with the egg transilluminated from behind with a powerful strobe (say, The Nikon SB800).  That wouldn't give you much detail, but you might be able to tell about a liquid/gas interface.

  2. It's my experience that eggs ALWAYS give me gas!  No picture needed!!!

    hahahahahahahaha

  3. you can monitor physiochemical changes going on inside the egg. such as change in mass due to addition of gases, change in the chemical profile of egg contents etc.

  4. Candling -- hold the egg up to a bright light source.
