  1. It can be a number of things, as suggested before, a lack of proper muscle use and stretching can cause it, but from my personal experience, I notice a lot of leg cramps if I don't get enough potassium. Whenever I start getting really bad leg cramps, I'll take a multivitamin that has potassium and within a day they start to subside.


  2. Low calcium will cause muscle cramps - calcium is involved in regulating protein interactions in muscle cells, and too little calcium causes muscle contraction.
