  1. Sugarcane !!!!

Sugar cane is basically grown for refined white sugar .

During the process  a significant part is left behind that has good quantity of sugar but cannot be converted in to that white , crystalline sugar .

This part is diverted for the manufacture of Ethyl alcohol or ethanol.

In fact every Sugar factory  ( Raw material either Sugar cane or sugar beet ) has a unit attached to it for Ethanol production.

It may sound paradoxical but in some countries the profit from this 'side business' is greater than the 'main business'!

This 'Left over' of sugar processing is called " Molasses"

Molasses or treacle is a thick syrup by-product from the processing of the sugarcane or sugar beet into sugar. (In some parts of the US, molasses also refers to sorghum syrup.)

The word molasses comes from the Portuguese word melaço, which comes from mel, the Portuguese word for "honey".

The quality of molasses depends on the maturity of the sugar cane or beet, the amount of sugar extracted, and the method of extraction.

Potato and fruits 'left overs' are also used for alcohol production.
