  1. Norway, Iceland, various Native American Nations all practice whaling to a greater or lesser extent.  It is not harvesting or killing, it is hunting.  I hunt too, and I eat what I kill.

  2. A study by Tulane U. is being done to see if whale oil could be used as an alternative energy source.   The most common whale species are the focus of these tests.

  3. of course Norway .

people from Norway kill more than 1,000 whales for leather and traditional dish.

    yuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. The U.S.A, of course.  The Eskimo, and Native Americans (Indians) both still whale.  Eskimo, and Native Americans are two DIFFERENT set of ethnic people.

Eskimos, and Native Americans in Alaska still hunt whales.

Native Americans in Washington State still hunt whales.

  5. Iceland and Norway are the next two biggest culprits on the issue of continued whaling.  Sadly, of the 70 countries assigned to the International Whaling Commission another 20 think the killing (it isn't "harvesting"...it's killing) of whales should be allowed again.

Japan though is the most arrogant and disrespectful of the commissions findings and laws.  Not a shock considering their society.

I think it's time we drop the economic hammer on Japan and boycott them across the board!

There is even a neat website (see link below) called "Boycott Japan" that has some detailed and interesting information on how to boycott products from Japan and get the anti-whaling message to these people.

I'm not an advocate of anyone going to extreme measures to enforce (no matter how right, just and humane) an act on another society.

In this case though I'm sick of the arrogance and disregard Japan displays to the world (be it historical revisionism in the atrocities they committed in WWII or whaling) that I think heavy handed measures should be taken.

I'd be thrilled to see the world's navies intercept these whaling ships, order the crews off, haul them into ports and scrap them.

The stance that this is a "cultural" aspect of Japan's society is a joke. These are the same people that used s*x slaves for the army as late as WWII.
