Besides reading, what's the best way to improve your vocabulary?

join a spelling club

Talking to others. This is probably the second best way to learn to words. Try hanging out with the "Aspiring to be a writer" type of people. You know what i mean? The kinds that always read books and is at the library. Strike up a conversation and you should pick up a few words that you don't understand. Ask them about it and they'll probably be kind enough to explain it to you.

Walk around with a dictionary on top of your head. You won't have to read, it'll seep into your brain during the day. Then sleep with it under your pillow at night. Then do the same thing with encyclopedias and novels.

Play word games.....crosswords, word searches.....or online games.  

Read the newspaper and look up stuff that you don't understand the meaning of.

Look up a new word every day and try to use it as much as you can.

I would say reading is your best bet...sorry!

Everyday, open the dictionary, find a word you don't normally use or have never heard of/used, and use it as many times as you can the next few days, then pick a new one, but keep using past words, and your vocab will go up in no time.  :)
