Besides swimming, what are good pool workouts?

edit: just looking for something to replace the elliptical. keep my heart rate up and do some toning.

  1. it is great cardiovascularly to just run in place in the deep end (feet not touching the bottom) use arm action and high knee and stay afloat head above water.


  2. Water Polo workouts, Get a large water jar and use the egg beat technique to lift yourself out of the water and you will be ripped..

  4. what do you have in mind? We do Aqua Aerobics in the Pool, they are exercises, that are very good for you, and are easy on the joints, and the water resistnce is of great benifit

    Water Polo, is also interesting if you have it. Or perhaps some other water games. Syncronized swimming... Diving....

  6. Aqua jogging is a great all over body exercise if your not actually wanting to swim - you wear an aqua belt which holds you afloat and basically run through the deep water.

    Water aerobics is much lower impact work and to gain any sort of benefit you need to ensure that you keep yourself in shoulder depth water rather than your top half being out of the water which is generally seen in aqua aerobics classes.

    The other aquatic disciplines can provide you with a good water work out although for most of them; synchro, water polo etc there is alot of swimming training done for their fitness side.

  7. By far the best exercise for you is Aquafitness, for several reasons:

    1. It gets your heartrate up right away, so in the same time you get more of a workout

    2. It is easy on the joints, because the water buffers your movements, reduces shock, and adds some buoyancy to your body.

    3. You go at your own pace. You can make aquafitness as hard or as easy as you want it to be.
