Apart from 1987, when they failed to progress out of their group (recording their only win against Japan and losing to Australia and England), the USA competed in the Rugby World Cups of 1991 (where they lost all three of their games), 1999 (ditto), and 2003 (where they again beat Japan and lost to Fiji, Scotland and France). They narrowly failed to qualify for the 1995 tournament where they were pipped by Argentina in qualifying.

The Eagles' pool games in the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France are aganst England, Tonga, Samoa, and South Africa.
