I have heard of many from my Vietnam Veteran friends, never see it in print. Why is that?

  1. Tigers are rare these days. Rock apes? Simians are rare too. Poisonous snakes are a possibility but risk is low. In some parts of the country there is very real risk of UXO (unexploded ordinance from the American war - 3 kids were killed in Quang Tri just a few weeks ago by an explosive device that they found).

I recently returned  from 4 years in Viet Nam and no one really expressed concern about dangerous critters (no Vietnamese or expats that I knew).

The biggest risk is probably dengue fever - mosquito born. Malaria, also mosquito born is a risk, but you hear more about dengue.

  2. snakes, definitely. spiders, scorpions, etc.
