I am trying to determine specifically how people are booking vacation rentals from the UK, IRE when they come to the US. Do they use specific websites, or ads in newspapers (which ones) or other means besides travel agencies and tour companies.

  1. i viewed rental homes on Owners Direct,i book all my properties with them as i hate hotels and like my privacy.

  2. There are house-swapping organizations where you can trade houses with people in cities you wish to visit for the weeks you are on vacation.  We did it one WINTER, trading our house at Breckenridge  Ski Area for a house in Coral Gables, Florida.   You would be wise to discuss it with the prospect, by telephone, after you locate a possibility.

  4. There are a lot of Villa rental sites. I prefer Ownersdirect.com but also use holiday-rentals.com. These sites are good because you deal with the owner and not send your money to some anonymous internet company. Also i have found most owners are open to negotiation on the price especially at short notice. These sites are trusted and well known but there is no better advertising in the UK than word of mouth. If we feel we have got a bargain we will recommend a place to others. I know an owner who deliberately under prices his property to guarantee his season is fully booked.

  5. There are alot of sites out there with vacation home rentals by owner.

Here are a few that provide vacation home rentals, cabin rentals, condos and cottage rentals from all over the United States. I advertise on these sites and find them to be very user friendly with lots of photos and area information:

    http://www.homeaway.com

    http://www.vacationrentals411.com

    http://www.vacationhomerentals.com/

    http://www.vlbo.com

    http://www.forgetaway.com

    Hope this helps.
