Question:

Best 10 spices/herbs to have in a kitchen?

I'm putting together a wedding shower gift, and I wanted to add a "kitchen starter". The couple don't have any kitchen items yet. They typically eat standard North American dishes with some Italian and North American Chinese dishes.

What would be the top 10 spices/herbs (besides salt and pepper) that you would add to a gift basket?

Which herbs/spices should no basic kitchen be without?
