Looking for brand names of the best 100% cotton yarn for sweater, hat, & scarf making. I've been using Sugar n' Cream, which is nice, but wondering if there's better stuff out there for crochetting and knitting garments.

  1. Brown Sheep's Cotton Fleece is a very nice, worsted weight cotton yarn for sweaters and it holds its color when washed, it's also reasonably priced.  Takhi's Cotton Classic is a DK weight, mercerized cotton, but it runs on the more expensive side, but it is gorgeous stuff to knit with.  Mission Falls has a nice cotton  yarn, also expensive, though, as is Manos' Cotton Stria.

Sugar 'n Cream can be a bit stiff in the wearing in tighter gauges, Peaches 'n Cream is just a bit lighter and less so.  Lion Cotton is pretty decent, too.

  2. Most of the things I have made  for something like that would be the baby yarn.  There are so many different types  that I would really suggest that rather than me telling you what to use would be for you to go to a hobby store and "feel" the material as we tend to get caught up in using only one brand and not seeing what else has come onto the choices  and the newer colors and textures.  Look around and see what is waiting for you.

  3. I actually like that one (Sugar 'n' Cream) and was going to recommend it to you.  I've tried a few of the others and have found nothing better than the one I started with, the Sugar 'n' Cream.  Keep looking if you like, but I like this one.

  4. I'm not at all fond of sugar and cream.  the yarn is far too stiff and way too hard to work with.  I suggest a cotton/acyric yarn blend.

  5. Plymouth Earth Oceanside Organic cotton is fairly new but awesome to work with and really soft.
