  1. I worked 9 years at a marina in N Cal and they rany a few brands but their bright star was the Honda 100 -some of which were from 1982 and never rebuilt. I now have honda generators, and Motorcycles and just haven't seen any better. Biggest drawback is parts availability and price.

  2. I really hate to say this, but Suzuki has everybody beat hands down.  Best fuel economy, best emissions rating, best warranty, lighter weight, more features(like fast idle warmup control).

  3. Lets see you have no money issues to talk about then i would recommend the Honda but yes parts are costly, the Suzuki's are hard to get parts for if you live in the mid west, the Mercury's yes are good engines also but I bought the Johnson 9.9 4 stroke and love it I run it as a kicker and also on a 14 john boat .... I do know that the Johnson, Mercury's come with a 3 year warranty, I on the other hand I had a budget and the Johnson is a 2007 and I gave 1500.00 for it last winter. Look around try to see if you can talk to the parts guy at the dealership ask them what parts are readily available and which parts have to be ordered then you can pull your own conclusion.

  4. buddy I just bought a brand new mercury 9.9 as a kicker along with the 300hp verado supercharged both wicked engines I run it on a 28 foot offshore and it moves if to fast for trolling sometimes we also put it on our 14 foot aluminum boat and it flys and barly burns fuel you will love a mercury

  5. Sorry not familiar with the 4 strokes, but Merc 2 strokes in that size have been dead reliable in my experience. 4 strokers of any brand have too many moving parts to be all that reliable. And they're heavy.
