Best A/V Reciever under $1,000?

I'm looking for a great A/V reciever under 1K. I'm looking for upscaling to 1080p, at least a couple HDMI inputs (and an output), and good audio quality for a 5.1 speaker system. Some of the ones I'm looking at are the Sony DA4300ES and the Onkyo TX-SR 805 (but I don't think the Onkyo upscales, which is important to me). Please help me out!

  1. I particularly like Yamaha and Denon in this category. I have Installed and used many in my home theater business. The Yamaha RXV-863 or RXV-1800 (if you can find it under a 1000). The Denon 2308 and 2808 are great but can be slow on the Video switching. Great scailer, slow to switch. I would not recommend Sony in the least. I have had way to many problems with Sony. But maybe that's just me.

Now remember 1080p is a broad term. Look for native 1080p, deep color, bandwidth, 10,12,16 bit processing, or maybe just don't cause that may confuse you more. Good luck

  2. I have an 805 and it upscales to 1080p with hdmi.  Only 720p with component.  Why not let your player upscale?  In a few years everything will be blu ray and it wont matter.  At least the 805 has the new sound formats.  Dolby Hd and DTS hd.  I've had mine for a month and not one problem or second guessing my purchase.  The 875 isn't worth the extra $ in my opinion.  I have heard people have had hiss problems with the sony receivers.
