Well we can only go on who we have seen really, i can't sit hear and say Haydon bunton Jr, but he won 3 brownlows, as did skilton, Stewart etc but if i had to say the best i have seen, it would out of a few, jesaulenko,farmer,Royce hart, Bartlett, Mathews, Keith Grieg,Carey,Judd,hird,, there are a heap, but the one that stands out as the best overall footballer that i have seen in action would be no doubt GARY ABLETT SNR. no one is close in my opinion, forget his personal life, i am going on pure football brilliance alone.

All these old players you are all saying would not stand a chance in todays game. A player like Buddy Franklin would have been unstoppable years ago. Its gotta be a current player like him or Judd.

Browllow Medal, several club best and fairests, numerous career stats, 3 Anzac day medals... how can you go past James Hird??!! At least for this era. And he could play in almost any position on the ground, unlike a lot of the forwards who people have named. Lockett was the greatest goal kicker but certainly not the best over all player. Look at all of the playing positions, there are lots of guys on ground who barely get credit for what they do, look at the backmen for instance! Not all players have the luxury of kicking goals!
