Question:

Best AGP graphics card for under £40?

I need to upgrade my old computer because it currently performs very poorly. I don't want to spend a lot on a new graphics card, and this is not my main computer (I have built a better pc for gaming), not really sure on which graphics cards are the best because of their age. Thanks

  1. AGP is obsolete but you can pick one up for <£40. Try www.scan.co.uk and look for one with atleast 128MB memory. This is a good one:

  2. hi louis

agp cards are actually more expensive than the majority of pci-express cards however there are some decent cards around if you look

one such card is the nVIDIA GeForce 7600GT 256MB AGP 8x,which is just £32.74 inc. VAT from http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component...

this has some excellent specs including a 560mhz core clock and 256mb of ddr3 memory running at a decent 1400mhz ,these are respectable speeds and along with a decent 128bit memory bus you have a card capable of most games

another card worth considering is the ATI Radeon X1650 Pro 512MB AGP(http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component... is another good agp card with a sizable 512mb of ddr2 memory, and along with a core and memory clock of 500mhz/800mhz respectively this is a solid performer in all areas

my final card to recommend you is the Sapphire Radeon HD 2600PRO 512MB AGP (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component... card supports the latest direct x 10.1 and pixel and shader model 4.1 which is ideal if your running vista(premium or ultimate)

and its core specifications are pretty good aswell, these include a 600mhz core clock and 512mb of ddr2 memory running at 1000mhz,and a 128bit memory bus and a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1600 finishes off what i think is a excellent card for any agp based systems

another important factor of the HD2600pro is the HD(high-defenition) features which include support for ATI Avivo™ HD and Blu-ray / HD DVD decoding via Universal Video Decoding technology

so if you plan to use your p.c for a media center or you enjoy watching dvd,s and movie files then this has to be the first choice of agp card

               any problems let me know

                       good luck louis !

  3. ebuyer got a 512mb graphics card for £32 (excluding P & P)

  4. This is about the best one I could find... Or you could go with the Radeon X1650 suggested by an earlier poster.
