I ALREADY HAVE THE TV!!!!!!!!! Ok so all of you tech heads out there I'm interested in getting the best sounding home theatre I can for $8k or so. I will use it mainly to watch movies, but I also love music and plan on having SA-CD and DVD-Audio. I have already gotten my 65in plasma so we're just talking A/V receiver amplifier and speakers no need to mention a TV. Thanks!!

  1. The Definitive 'Mythos' speakers have won several 'Best of the Year' awards from magazines.

The SVS Subwoofers are legendary for great sound (I own one)

An option to the receiver is the Onkyo 705 model that retails for $899 and packs a LOT Of features.

Beyond that - mmountain and I are in total agreement.

  2. Denon DVD-3930CI = 1499

    Denon AVR-3808CI = 1599

    Ascend Acoustics 340 SE/170 SE 5.1 system = 1118

    JL Audio Fathom 113 = 3500

    Grand total = 7716

  3. H S U Research Sub and a H S U Research Sub Amp!

Martin Logan or Magna-Planars (ribbon tweets), as BIG as you can stand, if you can spring for them !

(pace yourself, if you can afford this now,

build it slowly & carefully and be rewarded! ).

Get a THX Receiver with 130 - 150 watts per channel,

& if that is not enough power just use the receiver as a front end (use the in-board amps for a second HT Zone)

and check out some McIntosh TUBE AMPS (SWEET).

Di-Poles sound fabulous if placed correctly for side surrounds.

Use the same size and quality as the front speakers

for the rears, if you want that sound to come from

anywhere seamlessly like that Steely Dan SA-CD does.

For high-end clients with high expectations

    (and plenty of bucks):

I use either Berillium (Yamaha NS-1000)

or Ribbon (Bohlender Graebner) drivers for a clean/crisp mid and top end and Hsu Research Subs

with plenty of either Mackie, Crown, QSC amps (solid state) or McIntosh Amps (Tube) for a powerful and clean sound.

    With a great front end, w/ SA-CD & THX,

    and even LOGIC7+ Decoding (Lexicon),

plenty of power, seven stacks of electro-statics (ribbons),

HSU for the bottom end, and

    that 65" screen

will be the smallest thing in the room!

PS: HTPC?, and no Turntable for that Truly Linear Vinyl?

    Build it by the Piece,

Listen to it by the Pound!

  4. Pioneer Elite vsx 94 txh 1600.00 Thx receiver

Pioneer Elite bdp 95 blue ray  1000.00

    SVS PB13 Ultra Subwoofer     1600.00

    Definitive Technology mythos sc

This would be a serious system with the Elite tandem giving you the latest suround sound technology. The SVS is purchased online and is equal to 6000.00 subwoofers and is considered the best you can buy from a company renowned

for customer service rated to 16hz. Definitive Tecnnology are my favorite brand where its high sensitivity ensure they play loud with the elites. research all especially the svs.
