Best Accommodation in Port Douglas, Australia?

Question

Looking to stay at the end of May in a vacation apartment (3 people).

Any recommendations? Any we should steer clear of?

Port Douglas was nice for people that enjoy the yacht scene. Lots of bars and nice eateries. It's where a lot of the tours leave from. Our trip to the barrier reef on quicksilver left from there.

We stayed in Palm Cove which was quiet but very pretty. Lots of nice resorts there. The sebel reef and Spa is lovely and right on the beach.

i thought port douglas was very over rated - over priced but i LOVED cairns! cairns was a fab base - we stayed at the LAKES - beautiful - amazing complex , we had a car and drove all around and was pleased we opted for cairns, we went to the great barrier reef from here and driving was easy - quiet roads. also cheaper eating in cairns we found as more choice.
