Contrary to the above answer, short term medical insurance starts a one month. There are several good companies where you can get a 6 month term policy. Call a local agent that works with all the major companies in your area. The agent can help you find the best for your situation and budget. Most on-line quote systems do not quote short term, or if they do the selection is limited.

Term insurance typically starts at 5 years or longer; however, the good thing about term is that it's extremely cheap and you can cancel any time you'd like.

Try quoting services online like selectquote.com where you can get many quotes for insurance at once, then you can choose the company you want from all of the offers you get. As long as you have no serious health problems, you'd probably get pretty close to what they quote for term on the site.

UnitedHealth and Assurant have good plans.  I have 6 different companies on my site if you want to browse and get quotes.

You can buy them from 1-12 months.  BUT ONLY buy a short term plan to fill a gap.  In other words if you have coverage and you know other coverage is coming - therefore 2 sides makes a gap.  

Problem is if you get seriously sick or injured and you need care beyond the timeframe you've purchased you are (and I'm about to use a technical term from our industry).....screwed.

Sounds like you need regular coverage to go on indefinitely.  It's great that football season is coming and whatnot, but drunk drivers, falls, lymes disease, cancers, strokes, etc.. etc.. mostly don't wait for football season.

It's smart that you want coverage, but be a little smarter and get the right coverage.
