Question:

Best Bait For Largemouth Bass?

The pond is probably an acre and is greenish-brown. If you can, I was looking for more like a food (hot dogs, corn, etc.) or something you can find in a fridge or pantry. Thanks

  1. Well for the most part everyone is right, for largemouth bass, anything u find in the frige wont work, sometimes worms dont even work! Aside from using crankbaits and buzzbaits, which work great, what u do is take a piece of corn, catch a sunny (blue gill) and switch ur hooks to a bigger one, and put the sunny on there! Its guaranteed, i caught a 21" large mouth bass today as a matter of fact, but i always recommend the buzzbait, considering using sunnys as bait is illegal, but u can pick a good buzzbait up at walmart for $1.00! go to youtube.com and find how to make them better! it wont take long and they work great!  Good luck

  2. senko are a very iffective bait but if u relly want ot catch them try live shinners and you should do great

  3. Every lake is different.  I've fished all over the US and Mexico for Large Mouths.  The best thing to do is to talk to a local of the area.  They will always steer you in the right direction of what works and what doesn't.  If you are looking for a food that you can just find....  No food that you mentioned will work.  It would have to be something natural from the area that they feed on.  Small frogs or toads.  Or just lift up some dirt and find some night crawlers.  Use a bobber and a bait hook and place whatever it is you find and you will get one.  Just beware of the Blue Gills that will make your bobber look like you are getting bites, but really they are just nibbles from the bait stealers.  Your best bet is to go to a sports store or fishing store and ask them what works best in the area.  They are usually very helpful and will set you up at a low cost.

  4. Your stuff in the pantry will be good for catfish. If the pond has a variety of fish you might attract some Brim with corn.

If you have no tackle the only other bait I've used for Bass is live shad (like minnows), so maybe you can catch some bait fish in a net or bucket out of the pond and try that.

    Good luck.

  5. Let me get this straight, you want to throw your lunch at the fish... right? If you really have ruled out natural baits then I would go with (I'm gonna get alot of hate email for this one) bacon strips! Cut it into thinner strips -- like a worm -- cast it out and try a slow retrieve. If you let it sit for any length of time you will probably catch catfish or turtles. Bass like baits that move. Have you ever seen a kernel of corn move? No. (I'll spare everyone the flake joke) Or try some bread and catch a few shiners & use them for bait. Best of luck & tight lines!

  6. I don't know what the best bait is, but my go-to lure is the Gary Yamamoto 5" Senko rigged Wacky style.  It's been landing me largemouths all summer long.

  7. my husband said to use a "Live Golden Shiner" minnow bait.

  8. the hotdogs, corn, etc. they really gonna work. but swimbaits is much more better because they move like a real fish and have a scent too.
