Best Big, Flat-Screen HD TV on the market?

Question

We're definitely getting a 46 - 50 inch one, but what is the best? My mom found an LCD with 1080p that she wants, but then my boyfriend, the avid gamer, screams that a Plasma with 1080p is the way to go. We've been TV shopping for weeks, but every time I turn around, it's, "this one's too grainy," or "this one's too blurry," or "this one's 'all pixel-y,'" haha.

Any help?

Do NOT buy Phillips, Insignia, Royo, Dynex, Vizeo, WestingHouse. These are all third-tier units that tend to not be very good.

The Pioneer Kuro plasma is generally considered one of the best displays on the market.  Several magazines declared it to be "Best of the Year" with crushing black, no artifacts that "windowblind" other displays, etc.

The higher end Sony and Sharp Aquous have come in as best in the LCD displays.

i have a 47" 1080p Phillips its great i had it for  about six months now but i do  like the ambie light Phillips oh its a LCD
