Best British performers at the 2011 Mare Nostrum in Barcelona
Many captivating performances in competitive swimming were seen at the 2011 Mare Nostrum in Barcelona, this week. Firstly, Joanne Jackson of Great Britain took home two silver titles in the Women’s 200m and 400m freestyle swimming events, which in itself
was a remarkable achievement for the British swimmer.
She hit the finishing blockade in a time of 1 minute and 58.55 seconds to clinch her first silver medal in the 200m freestyle final, while she grabbed her second silver title in the 400m freestyle event with a sterling time of 4 minutes and 08.76 seconds.
After securing second spot in the corresponding meets, Jackson was really pleased with her effort.
After the amazing performances of Joanne Jackson in the 200m and 400m free-relay finals, it was the effort of Liam Tancock that captivated the attention of the arena. Tancock snagged the silver title in the Men’s 50m back-stroke final with a matchless time
of 25.35 seconds, while he snared the bronze medal in the Men’s 100m back-stroke event with a time of 55.09 seconds.
Meanwhile, another British swimmer, Elizabeth Simmonds claimed the bronze medal in the Women’s 200m back-stroke final after she touched the finishing wall and ended her swim with a victorious time of 2 minutes and 08.61 seconds. She was also placed fifth
in the Women’s 100m back-stroke race with a time of 1 minute and 00.55 seconds.
Next, Ross Davenport of Great Britain rounded out the top three in the Men’s 200m freestyle meet after she touched the finishing blockade and concluded her swim with a winning time of 1 minute and 50.00 seconds. Last, but not the least, Fran Halsall took
home the Women’s 50m freestyle crown against Russian swimmer, Svetlana Fedulova with a sterling time of 25.01 seconds.
Many other British swimmers gave their best performances in swimming events including Ellen Gandy, Michael Jamieson and Keri Anne Payne. Such amazing performances from British swimmers show that they are capable of winning many gold titles in their upcoming
events at 2011 FINA World Championships, in China.
