  1. .38

  2. amt backup, your choice of caliber.

  3. I have a 2" snub-nosed S&W .357 magnum that I use for CCW work/bank runs.  Hollow points are your friends.  ;)

    I paid $375 for it.

  4. A good CCW revolver for under $400: S&W has a few just over $400 so i would next look at TAURUS 357/38 snub nose revolvers. Revolvers are easy to work with, load shoot and are RELIABLE.

  5. I disagree. Shorter barrels decrease velocity and accuracy. Get a 6" at least for a .357 to guarantee down-range accuracy and velocity.

  6. it's hard to beat a ruger sp100 or sp101 with short barrel for a budget priced CCW firearm that is rugged, dependable, accurate and top quality like the Ruger, I would use it to defend my life, or that of loved ones, and I can give no higher praise than that. Least you think I am a ruger fanatic, I carry a Para Ord nitehawg  in .45acp most of the time, or one of my 1911 style pistols. But if I were on a budget, I would chose the ruger revolver ( I prefer the .357 mag because you can load it with .38 spcl for use in your home, or where over penetration may endanger a bystander) but the .38 spcl cartridge is a proven manstopper, especially with the newer HP ammo from Hornady, Speer, Remington etc.

    Shoot safe
